Last week my four year old daughter asked to paint. . AGAIN. Not that I mind it, but she was getting bored with the same things. So, I decided to mix it up a bit. She had a blast and it didn’t cost me any extra money to find “something new” for her to do. Chances are, you have some of the same things laying around your house you can do this with.
You will need::
–Finger Paint
-Bowl of Water
-Paper Towels
–Paper or card stock
–Cookie Cutters
-Paper Plates
First, I dug out the “Springy/Eastery” plastic cookie cutters since Easter is right around the corner. Then I put a different colored paint on each paper plate. I set a bowl of water on top of some paper towels. I figured a small bowl of water to place her used, painted cookie cutters in when she was done was a better option than walking across the kitchen to the sink to bring the painted cookie cutters. ????
I prefer to use card stock when my daughter is using finger paints. It is thicker and doesn’t “leak through” as easily. Paper will work just find though. I had some card stock on hand, so that’s what I got out for her to use. She dipped the cookie cutter in the paint, swirled it around to make sure paint got all the way on the cookie cutter, and then she placed it on the card stock and pushed down a little. It was kind of like a stamp.
After this, I showed her that she could dip her fingers in the different colors and make “pictures” with the shape in the middle. She had fun doing this! She finished a flower and added a sun to it. She even put grass and “Easter Eggs” under a hopping bunny and added clouds and a sun.
She had a BLAST doing this! It was a little out of the “norm” so she was happy to be doing something a little different than just painting one of her pictures. If you don’t have plastic cookie cutters for this craft, you can find some at the Dollar Tree or Walmart for around $1.
