We all know that this time of the year, we are running short on everything including time, cash and patience! If you’re like me, the only thing that’s not short is your Christmas gift list! Here are 5 ways to say Merry Christmas that are quick to do, go easy on the pocketbook, and won’t make you cranky!
1. Make an extra dinner.
When you’re making supper one night, make an extra to give away! We are all struggling with the same things – time, money and patience – so the gift of a meal might just hit the spot! It will only take a little extra money on your part to stretch the meal a little further. Send the meal along with a recipe card, especially if you know this is a meal the recipient has enjoyed before – a gift that keeps giving.
2. Shovel your neighbor’s walk.
For some of us, this time of the year also comes with dreams of a white Christmas. Do someone a favor and shovel (or snow blow) their walk/driveway for them. This an especially nice gift for neighbors or community members who are ill or just unable to do the physical labor it takes to clean up. If there’s no snow where you are, consider another small job around the house that would be helpful to have done and offer. Wave and say “Merry Christmas” as you leave!
3. Drop them a line.
While you’re enjoying your tree in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, pen a few lines to someone on your list. Most people don’t expect to get a handwritten note in the mail so this gesture holds even more meaning in today’s world. Sometimes, a few simple words are more valuable than anything else we could offer!
4. Cookies!
Who doesn’t like Christmas cookies? Baking is something that most of us do this time of year, but many older folks do not, either because they are alone or they are unable. Offer to help with their holiday baking or simply gift them something sweet. A small plate of goodies to nibble on this time of the year promises to bring a smile every time!
5. Be a mom’s helper for a few hours.
Everyone is short on time during the holidays, but what a gift it would be to help out a friend or family member with young children by offering to either take care of their little ones so they can run errands, or by offering to run errands for them! Those few hours or alone time could be just the gift they were hoping for!
A famous person once said that necessity is the mother of invention. If you love to share gifts at Christmas, use these ideas to get inventive!
