You can save a lot of money by shopping at drug stores. I know their prices seem higher, but when you stack sales with Register Rewards and Balance Points, you can oftentimes snag freebies at Walgreens! Here are some things you need to know about shopping at Walgreen’s. Once you get the hang of these, you will be a pro in no time!
How to Shop at Walgreens Like a Pro:
1. Get a Walgreens Card.
When shopping at Walgreens, you need to make sure you have a Walgreens Card. This is FREE and will get you the sale prices. You can request one at your local Walgreens.
2. Sales Prices.
When an item is listed 2 for $2.00 or $1.39 each in the Walgreens ad, you have to purchase TWO items to get the sale price. If you purchase only one, you will have to pay $1.39 instead of the lower price of $1.00.
3. Register Rewards are one of the rewards programs Walgreens offers.
Register Rewards are printed out at the register after you’ve purchased the specified item (a lot like Extra Care Bucks print out at CVS). Register Rewards can ONLY be used at Walgreens on another transaction.
4. Balance Points is the other rewards program that Walgreens offers.
Balance Points are points that are offered when you buy particular items in the weekly sale. The points add up and once you hit 5,000 ($5.00), you can use them on your transaction to lower your out of pocket cost.
5. Paying with Balance Points or Register Rewards.
When you are purchasing an item that you will receive Register Rewards or Balance Points back on, you cannot pay with Balance Points or Register Rewards and still receive the rewards or points.
6. Walgreens doesn’t allow overage.
When you are purchasing an item for $0.50 and you have a coupon for $0.55, Walgreens will not accept the coupon because they do not allow “overage” on an item. Some Walgreens stores will adjust the price of the coupon down to the cost of the product and allow you to get it for free.
7. Stacking Coupons.
You can stack Walgreens Instant Value Coupons WITH manufacture coupons and sales to lower your costs in the store. The Walgreens Instant Value Coupons can be found in stores in a booklet each month. They are normally good through the end of the month. You can also see the Walgreens Instant Value Coupons online here.
8. Buy One Get One Free Sales.
When Walgreens has Buy One Get One Free sales, you can not use a coupon on the “free” item. If Purex is on sale Buy One Get One Free, and you have a $2.00/2 coupon, you will have to purchase FOUR bottles of Purex to use the $2.00/2 coupon.
9. Mobile Rebates.
After you leave Walgreens, you can still submit for mobile rebates through Checkout 51, Ibotta, and other mobile rebates to get freebies and/or overage from items.
10. New “Everyday Points Perk”.
You can get MORE points added to your account with the “Everyday Points Perk”. With this, you can earn 100 points for every $1.00 you spend on almost everything in the store, every day. This includes photos, prescriptions, and more!
11. Earn Points with the Fitness Tracker.
Earn extra points when you connect your fitness tracker with your Walgreens account. For every mile you walk/run, you can earn 20 points (up to 1,000 points per month). You also earn 250 points when you set goals and meet them. You can connect your device to your account here to earn extra points.
12. Rain Checks.
If you get to the store, and they are out of a freebie you are wanting to snag for that week, make sure you get a rain check. Rain Checks at Walgreens do not expire, so you have plenty of time to snag the deal. Just be sure you snag the deal before your matching coupons expire.
13. Check the Match-Ups.
Check the match-ups before you go. Before heading out to Walgreens, make sure you check out the latest weekly ad. The BEST deals will have a star next to them in the match-ups, so you can get your coupons ready. It’s always good to be prepared before you get to the store and/or the checkout.
