When you’re not happy with the way your home looks, it can represent more than just an aesthetic problem. It can also negatively impact your mental health and make you feel like you’re not living life to its fullest.

As such, taking a step back and examining your decor and interior design for signs of a change being needed is crucial, but many people don’t have the time or the inclination to do so.

We strongly recommend carefully considering a transformation for your home, but you don’t have to break open your piggy bank to do it.

Here’s how to transform your home without breaking the bank.

Revamp your kitchen

Your kitchen is likely to be one of the most-used rooms in your house, especially if you’re a keen chef.

That’s why any home transformation should probably start with the kitchen. When you change the way your kitchen looks, you’ll revitalise your interest in cooking as well!

Even if you don’t want to completely change your kitchen’s aesthetic, you can change up the furniture. Installing new kitchen cabinets, especially custom-made ones, is a great way to do so.

Don’t neglect your kitchen, because it’s one of the most important areas in your home.

Display custom artwork

Anybody can buy a print of a famous piece of art and display it in their home. That might be tasteful and classy, but it doesn’t have the personal touch.

Whether you’re a keen artist or you know someone who’s a budding creative, displaying art that’s personal to you is a good way to transform your home.

It’ll give you something of strong emotional significance to look at while you’re relaxing, and it’ll also serve as a great conversation piece for guests.

Ask around your friends to see if anyone has any art they’d like to sell. After all, supporting your friends in their artistic endeavours feels great too!

Mix and match your aesthetic

While matching furniture and colour is a good design tip, it doesn’t always result in the most interesting or exciting interior living space.

Try mixing and matching your aesthetic so that you’ve got lots of different colours and styles going on. This will help to keep your space feeling vibrant and eye-catching.

It’s possible to go wrong here, especially if you’re an interior design neophyte, so don’t be afraid to enlist the help of someone who’s got more experience in this field.

The last thing you want is to transform your home into an eyesore!

Grow some plants

Plants are essentially a shortcut to a great-looking interior living space, and the best part is that they don’t take anywhere near as much work as some might think they do.

Many people believe that plants just can’t be a part of their busy lifestyle, but the fact is there are lots of plants that barely require any care at all.

These plants can still add a green, natural feel to a house, and your mental health will also likely improve when you dot your house with plants.

There are really no downsides to indulging your green thumb, so get planting!

Take more exercise

It might sound strange, but taking exercise can help to transform a space. This is perhaps more of a psychological tip than a physical one, but we’ve found it works.

If you spend more time out of your house, then coming back to it feels both relaxing and rewarding rather than repetitive and boring.

There’s nothing quite like going for a run or a punishing workout, then returning home and flopping down on the sofa while watching your favourite shows.

If you’re becoming bored of your home, this might be a good way to rekindle the relationship, so to speak.

Add custom furniture decorations

Is your home full of Ikea furniture? There’s nothing wrong with that on a basic level; Ikea is affordable, relatively attractive, and extremely useful.

However, even Ikea itself would likely not argue with the fact that its furniture can look a little drab, so why not try your hand at adding your own decorations to it?

You could, for instance, paint your furniture with a unique pattern, or add extra elements to it in the form of collage or padding with another material.

You’d be amazed at just how transformative this can be, and the best part is that the materials you need can often be acquired for next to nothing.

Reallocate your rooms

If you’re lucky enough to have multiple bedrooms, or perhaps several rooms that don’t necessarily serve a specific purpose, then rearranging and reallocating them can be a good way of transforming a space.

For instance, why not remake one of the guest bedrooms as a music room if you’re musically-inclined? After all, if you have guest rooms, you might not spend much time in them, so they might essentially be wasted space.

Similarly, if you have a downstairs room you’re not using much – a storage area, for instance – then you could turn it into a display area for artwork or crafts.

Try to think about your space creatively, and don’t be afraid to ask family and friends what they think would look great or go well in certain rooms in your home. Again, you’d be surprised at how many of them may well have opinions on this very subject!

Renovate the outside

We’re not necessarily talking about adding extensions or remodelling your whole home here (although you can, of course, do this if you’ve got the money).

Rather, we mean smaller, more manageable additions like repainting your front door, adding a new door knocker, or even getting a new doorbell installed.

The melodious sound of your doorbell ringing is sure to put a spring in your step on even the rainiest of days, and installing an old-school brass knocker is a good way to add a vintage Gothic touch.

These things can often be found in curiosity shops or charity shops for not much scratch, too!
