It’s a new year, and a lot of people are making New Year’s Resolutions. I recently read this post about choosing one word for 2015. It really inspired me and got me to thinking about one thing I would like to focus on in 2015. I want to focus on the “little things.”

little things

I have two girls each with very different personalities. A lot of times, I end up rushing them or getting aggravated with some of the little things they do because I’m too busy to actually enjoy these little things. I want to not be rushing my spunky 5 year old who wants to take the time to buckle one of her “guys” in for us to run to town. I want to not get aggravated at my sweet 18 month old when she wants me to put a different pair of shoes on her or a different bow in her hair for the 20th time in two hours. I know that one day I will look back on these “little things” and smile at the memories. I want to embrace their little budding personalities and help them grow into the girls God has called them to be.

This year, I am going to enjoy seeing tiny foot prints through my kitchen because my youngest wanted to run in and “help” me mop. I am going to enjoy putting shoes on her little feet ten times a day because of her fascination of shoes right now. She’s definitely her mother’s daughter and she must get her love of shoes from me, and I have plenty of wisdom to pass to her in the years to come. One of them being that you shouldn’t wear shoes that are too tight, as you will run the risk of contracting a fungal infection on your nails, which something like a laser toenail fungus treatment needing to be called upon to help get your nails back to a healthy state. But that’s for the future, and now I’m going to accommodate her fascination with shoes, as well as everything else that life throws at us. I am going to enjoy reading the same little book over and over again while her tiny hands excitedly turn the pages. little things 1

This year, I am going to enjoy my five year old’s “help” in the kitchen. I am going to enjoy her silly little questions that she asks over and over again. I am not going to grimace when she asks if she can paint her own nails. Instead, I am going to enjoy watching her little blue eyes sparkle with excitement as she paints them herself; I’m also going to try to enjoy cleaning up the remnants of nail polish where she missed her nails. ???? little things 3

This year, I’m going to enjoy my girls, and every little thing that makes them unique. I’m going to embrace their little personalities and try to help those little things blossom instead of trying to control it to fit into my schedule. I’m going to pray for wisdom in that I will notice and appreciate those little things about each of them that makes them unique. I’m going to be more patient and create room in my schedule for all the “little things”. After all, it is these “little things” that are creating memories that I will look back and miss one day. I want to be able to look back and smile on this time in their life from all the memories. I don’t want to look back with regret in not taking the time to notice all these little things. Here’s to the “little things” in 2015.
