DIY Crayon Play Dough – Frugal Finds During Naptime

Do you ever have broken crayons, and want to use them for a fun repurposing project? If so, you can make play-dough out of them! That’s right-Play-Dough! How fun (and thrifty) is that? Even if you don’t have a lot of broken crayons but have a particular color crayon that you have a lot of, you can use those as well!diy crayon play dough

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 4 Red Crayons, cut up
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • 3/4 Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Cream of Tartar

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients (flour, salt, and cream of tartar).
  2. Peel the wrapper off of your crayons and cut them up into small pieces.
  3. In a pan, over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and add crayons.
  4. Stir until the crayons are all melted, then add the cup of water, slowly while continuing to stir.
  5. Slowly add in your dry ingredients while stirring.
  6. Once all ingredients are added, remove from heat and knead dough until well combined (it will be a little warm).
  7. Store in an air tight bag or container to prevent it from drying out.
