It’s no secret that babies can be expensive. One of the most expensive items are diapers; however, they’re a necessity. Since diapers are a necessity, there are two choices. You can either (1) switch to cloth diapers to save some money, or (2) learn how to save money on diapers. Since I am not an expert on cloth diapers, you can read more about how to use them here. If cloth diapers just aren’t for you (they weren’t for me either), here are 15 ways you can save money on diapers.
15 Ways to Save Money on Diapers (and how to get FREE diapers):
1. Create a baby registry.
Many national stores will you a little goody bag for creating a registry with them. The bags usually come with a sample pack of diapers, wipes, baby bottle, high value coupons, and other baby necessities. (Target’s baby gift registry comes with $60 in goodies!) Many times, you will also get a 10% off registry completion coupon you can use on the diapers. Others will enter you into a drawing to win a year’s supply of diapers or even a $500.00 gift card (think how many diapers THAT could buy!).
Here are some that give you a goody bag for creating a baby registry:
The National Diaper Bank is set up to help provide low-income families assistance in providing diapers for their little ones. Even if you use WIC and/or Food Stamps, the National Diaper Bank can still help since the other programs do not help cover the cost of diapers.
3. Ask friends or family members.
Many times, babies grow out of diapers BEFORE the pack of diapers can be used. When this happens, mamas have diapers laying around they can do nothing with. If you have a friend or family member with a little one in diapers in a size bigger than yours, don’t be afraid to ask them for the extras when their little one out grows the size they are currently in.
4. Enter your codes from Pampers and Huggies to redeem for free packs of diapers.
Pampers and Huggies have rewards programs for their diaper and wipe products. You can sign up for a free account with them, then enter the codes from the inside of the packages of diapers and wipes. Then you can redeem the points from the codes for coupons, diapers, and other baby products.
5. Sign up for free samples from companies.
There are many diaper companies who give free samples of their diapers away. Now, getting free samples will not fill up a closet for you; however, if you get three to four sample packs of diapers containing five diapers each, that’s 15-20 FREE diapers!
To receive free samples of diapers, you can write a quick email to the diaper company, or visit the site directly. There are a few places that will send you a sample packet and you have to pay a small shipping fee. Some will allow you to try a sample of their brand on a trial basis, and will enroll you in a program if you don’t cancel. Just be sure to read all of the writing before you sign up. You can also ask your friends and family members to sign up as well. It never hurts to have EXTRA samples. 🙂
Here are some places:
There are some companies who work with big diaper brands and want moms’ honest opinions of diapers. They will send you a free pack of diapers in exchange for your honest assessment on them. Many of these companies will even pay you on top of it! I received $5 AND a pack of wipes to review them when my youngest was only a month old!
Now, it’s not guaranteed that everyone will get these freebies, but it’s worth a shot. You do need to make sure your profile is filled out so that the company knows you have a little one and are eligible to test diapers/wipes.
Here are some companies that offer paid product testings:
7. Amazon Mom.
Use Amazon Mom to save an extra 20% on diapers PLUS you can use the diaper coupons WITH the 20%! As a bonus, you also get additional coupons each month just for being an Amazon Mom member. From time to time, you even get a free $10-$15 gift card when you order diapers!
Amazon Mom is genius! Order diapers (with coupons) from the comfort of your home. You still get the savings you get with coupons, PLUS you don’t have to drag your newborn (and kids) out to pick up diapers.
8. Watch the size.
The smaller the size diaper you little one is in, the more diapers you get per pack. If you move up in size to quickly, you end up spending MORE money on diapers in the long run.
9. Ask for a diaper shower.
If you’re currently pregnant, ask for a diaper shower rather than a baby shower. You can purchase baby clothes second hand; however, you can’t (nor would you want to) purchase diapers second hand. In other words, you get more in the long run if you have a diaper shower.
10. Enter diaper giveaways.
There are many diaper companies who giveaway diapers. Each company varies, but you normally just have to enter your name, email address, and/or follow them on social media.
11. Try a new brand.
This one was hard for me, and it may be hard for you too. I get it. I tried using other brands when my oldest was a baby. She was VERY sensitive and broke out when we used off-brands. It took us a while to find the right products that fit within our budget that didn’t break her out. It may take some time, but it’s worth it when it saves you extra each month.
12. Share your referral links with friends and family members.
Amazon Mom and Diapers.com are two sites I know that will reward you when you share and your friend signs up. This, in turn, gives you free credits you can use to save on diapers.
13. Ask your doctor’s office.
When I had both of my girls, the nurses didn’t let us leave the hospital without a few packs of diapers! Three jumbo sized packs of diapers doesn’t sound like a whole lot, but boy do they add up! Also, the packs of diapers given to you in the hospital and/or doctor’s offices are normally filled with special offers and coupons.
14. Use coupons to stock up.
There are always a lot of baby coupons, and now there are even mobile coupons for diapers! Every few weeks, diapers are on sale. You can stack the coupons and mobile rebates with the sales to snag some AWESOME stock-up deals on diapers. Plus, I post diaper deals each week to help you save money on diapers. You can see those deals HERE. You can also sign up to receive the best diaper deals in your inbox weekly, so you don’t have to search for the deals! Sign up below.
15. Sign up for the baby club in your local supermarket.
Many supermarkets have a baby club where you can (normally) sign up while you are pregnant. Each month or quarter, you will receive store coupons to save on diapers, wipes, and other baby related products. As your child grows older, the coupons will change a little to help you save on your baby’s needs at that stage.
Many stores allow manufacture coupons to be stacked with the store diaper and wipe coupons you will be receiving. This can really help to save on diapers!
