My husband has to travel for work from time-to-time. I used to get mad about it. In fact, I would get so frustrated about it, I would actually pick a fight with my husband. I thought if I was mad at him, I wouldn’t miss him. That was dumb, because I did miss him, and the fight? That was just unnecessary and childish on my part.

I’ve realized that, even though, I don’t always like it when my husband travels for work, it could be worse. My husband could be deployed overseas where I couldn’t see or talk to him for days. {Shout out to all the military spouses who do it!}

Don't tell my husband, but there are times when I secretly get excited when I know he has an upcoming business trip! Read why. . It may not be what you think!

Instead of focusing on the negative of him being gone, I decided to look at the “pros” of him being gone. Once I did that, it gave me a completely different perspective! Now, I secretly get a little excited when I know he is going to be gone, and here is why::

  • I don’t have to shave my legs. Enough said. 😉
  • I don’t have to cook. Don’t think I don’t feed my kids either. 😉 I just don’t have to actually cook a meal. The girls and I are completely happy with grilled cheese sandwiches. This makes dinner and clean-up much quicker too!
  • I get extra snuggles and cuddles. At our house Daddy is the “Official Tuck-er In”. This job comes with some pros-like all the extra snuggles and cuddles. When Daddy is away, Mommy gets that job! Not to mention, my oldest will sleep in my bed with me so I definitely get extra cuddle time.
  • I don’t have to watch T.V. I stay at home and am constantly listening to music, T.V., chatter, toys, etc. Once the girls go to bed, I like a quiet house and my hubby likes to watch T.V. When he’s gone, I get a quiet house.
  • I get extra “girl” time. Yes, I LOVE having my man around. When he’s gone though, it’s like a slumber party some nights! The girls and I get our pyjamas on (my youngest will be the cutest dragon in a onesie every time), pull out nail polish, turn on a “girl-y” movie, and have fun. Plus I have an awesome friend, who comes to visit when he is out of town. We go shopping, eat lunch, and just have a girls day. My oldest LOVES it!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Do you do fun things with your kids when Daddy is gone?

    Oh my goodness! Did this ever bring back memories.

    My hubby used to work out of town twice a month. I actually enjoyed the time too! I let the house get messy, I got lazy with meal times, and I enjoyed the “me time”. I wrote, watched chick flicks, and read a lot!

    Thanks for sharing – I could definitely identify!

    This makes me wish my husband did travel!! Though my kids never sleep, so I’m not sure if I’d get any me time. I would love to have the television to myself and some time to read. How I miss reading!
